European perspective
In Europe, Daiichi Sankyo is also dedicated to the creation and supply of innovative pharmaceutical products to address the diversified unmet medical needs of patients.
The company's roots in Europe extend back to the 1980s, when both Daiichi and Sankyo established offices in Düsseldorf, Germany. Here, the merger between the two traditional Japanese enterprises took place in 2007.
Daiichi Sankyo’s European headquarters are located in Munich, Germany. The company currently does business in 12 European countries. Through licensing and sales agreements, its products are available in almost every European market.
With nearly 2,500 employees, Daiichi Sankyo has been one of the strongest Japanese pharmaceutical companies located in Europe since it set up its European production facilities in 1990. In this year, Sankyo acquired the “Luitpold-Werke”, a mid-sized German pharmaceutical company.
With net sales of yearly €587 million in fiscal year 2010. Europe is the third-largest market for the Daiichi Sankyo Group following Japan and the United States.
Through its French affiliate Daiichi Sankyo Europe also provides pharmaceuticals to patients in many North- or West-African countries such as Algeria, Burkina Faso, Camerun, Congo, Morocco, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
